From the Curtain Up ReviewFish turns out to be a funny, involving and well-acted play. It's about a neurotic middle-aged woman (Loretta Napolitano as Laura) who approaches a younger man named Charlie (Matt Munroe) in a bar and pays him to do her some pretty odd favors. Their dark pasts are gradually illuminated: we see who's haunting Laura and driving her to destruction, and why it turns out that Charlie is the perfect man for the job. In addition to Munroe and Napolitano, there's also excellent work from Theresa Gambacorta and Raine Brown as the ghosts who haunt Charlie and Laura ... Fish has become a surprisingly memorable, entertaining play. At Players Theatre. 60 minutes. A New York City premiere, “Fish” by emerging Austin, Texas playwright Cyndi Williams marks the first collaboration of A Mix Productions of Scotch Plains, NJ and Live Oak Productions of New York, NY. “Do you believe in fate?” asks a dead girl. Darkly offbeat, “Fish” wrings comedy and eerie drama out of the accidental death of a young woman who felt she was “fated” to do great things. After killing the young woman in a car accident Laura becomes self-destructive. Setting out on a surreal odyssey she hires a drifter half her age to physically harm her in an attempt to feel human again and gets insight from philosophy spouting teenage convenience store clerks. Missi, the dead girl, stalks and confronts Laura to explain why she's so bummed out about being dead. The show features Loretta Napolitano as Laura, Raine Brown as Missi, and Matt Munroe as Charlie. Also featured are Tim Macht and Angela Freeman. Original music is by Jairous L. Parker, Sr. and Craig Kiell. A Mix Productions' president and artistic director is Rich Johnson. This is the company's New York debut. Live Oak Productions, associate producer, has since 1986 provided entertainment consulting services to businesses as diverse as the Nederlander Organization, Time Warner, Inc., Mypheduh Films and Miramax International.
